Early Career and Musical Beginnings
Mark Broom is a renowned British techno DJ and music producer whose career spans over three decades. His journey into electronic music began in the summer of 1989 when he was captivated by the emerging sounds of Chicago house and acid house. Inspired by this new musical landscape, he saved up for a pair of Technics turntables and embarked on a path that would establish him as a leading figure in the British and European techno scene.
Prolific Career and Releases
Throughout his career, Broom has released over 150 singles, showcasing his versatility across various sub-genres of electronic music. He has collaborated with esteemed record labels such as Defected, Rekids, Warp, Ifach, M-Plant, Cocoon, and Glitterbox. In 2009, he launched his own label, Beard Man, further cementing his reputation as a dynamic and innovative music producer.
Pure Plastic Recordings and Collaborations
In 1994, Broom co-founded Pure Plastic Recordings with fellow musician Dave Hill at the infamous UXB Studio in Greenwich, London. The duo also collaborated under various monikers, including Rue East, resulting in albums such as Summer of Blood (1998) and Indoor Culture (2001).
Broom released his now-iconic debut album, Angie Is A Shoplifter, on Pure Plastic in 1996. The label also featured music and remixes from artists such as Ben Sims, Oscar Mulero, Baby Ford, and Surgeon, releasing over 65 records before concluding in 2007.
Broom has also released a myriad of tracks under aliases such as Five Mic Cluster, Lighter Thief, Star B [with Riva Starr], and Kingpin Cartel.
